(SBA) - Boyd Harman, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 29. He was born in Oneona, NY. The Harman’s family home was in Fort Plain, NY where he attended a one room schoolhouse. His family sent him to the Phillips Exeter Academy, graduating in 1958. He graduated from Hamilton College in 3 years with Math and French majors. He took a summer class at the Sorbonne and interned in U.S. bank in Paris, later returning to the United States for his Master’s Degree in Science Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon. After graduating in 1963, he began working at Pittsburgh Paint & Glass.
In 1968, he went on to accept a financial position with Bell & Howell Co., an up-and-coming Chicago Co. He was the senior finance officer for 34 years. He was the owner of Boyd Harman Finance Co. in Gloversville, NY.
He married Janis Lindgren in 1975 and the newlyweds were in the UK for Bell & Howell during the Bicentennial in America. Boyd later returned to the UK for another financial assignment in 1978. His love of business led him to employment at two international banks; Australian West Pac & France’s Societe Generale.
He went on to retire at 67, where he volunteered his time at DePaul University, The Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, Glenview Area Historical Society, and Valley Lo Sports Club as an officer for 20 yrs., and Senior Corp. Organization of Retired Executives (SCORE).
His humor, history, financial expertise, and common sense were loved by all who met and knew him.
Boyd & Janis were married for 49 yrs. His gentleman’s nature with kindness and caring will be missed. Burial will be in family plot Bainbridge, NY where his grandparents, father, mother, and sister remain.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on Tuesday, June 24
at the Community United Methodist Church
Sgt. Bluff in the fellowship hall @ 10:00 a.m.
Lunch will be served at noon and the public is welcome
to tour the Baker Museum at 1:00 p.m.
