Museum Announces Family Summer Programming

(SBA) - Opportunities at the Sioux City Public Museum to explore history through classes and family activities are available this summer. Classes are available on ancient games and pioneer lives, as well as hands on opportunities for young children at Kid’s Thursdays. Family field trips are a new opportunity for learners of all ages to get out and explore local history in the community. Held from June 13 through July 25, the museum’s summer classes and programs are for children ages 3 and up.

Pre-registration is required for summer classes. Class sizes are limited; pre-payment is required to hold reservations unless otherwise noted. Visit for details. Become an Ancient Gamer
Travel back to ancient times to try out the earliest board games and craft a version to take home.

Tales and Trails: A Pioneer Adventure
Become a pioneer – experience candle making, square dancing, games, crafts, and a STEM challenge.

Geared to families with young children. Adults and children will explore hands-on learning activity stations together in a supervised classroom setting.

Friday, June 21           War Eagle Monument and Bruguier’s Cabin                                                         Meet at the War Eagle Monument then travel to Bruguier’s Cabin in your own vehicle.

Friday, July 19            Floyd Monument and First Bride’s Grave                                                              Meet at the Floyd Monument then travel to First Bride’s Grave in your own vehicle.

Jackson Street Neighborhood Walking Tour        Tuesday, July 9 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Departing from the Peirce Mansion, 2901 Jackson Street
     A special Peirce Mansion open house will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the 75-minute walking tour of the surrounding residential neighborhood led by Tom Munson, Archives Manager, and Haley Aguirre, Archival Records Clerk. The public is invited to attend both, or either, of the free activities. John Peirce, builder of the historic Peirce Mansion, and his partner D. T. Hedges developed the northern part of Jackson St. as part of the longest single addition to Sioux City: Peirce’s Addition.
