Shirley E. Baker, 87

     (SB) - Shirley E. Baker, 87 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Embassy Care Center  in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 4-7 pm with a time of sharing at 6 pm at the funeral home.
     Shirley was born March 4, 1937 in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa the daughter of Kenneth and Phoebe (Betz) Hurd. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1955. On August 4, 1957 Shirley married Dewey Baker. Dewey was in the United States Air Force for over 21 years, as a military family they traveled all over the country and overseas. In 1973 Dewey retired, and they moved to Sioux City, Iowa where they made their home.

      She loved being around her family, especially her kids and grandkids. Shirley enjoyed baking goodies for her family, friends and the neighbors. She also enjoyed going to Timothy’s to have coffee and occasionally she would eat lunches and dinners there.  Shirley was an avid Iowa Hawkeye’s fan and also liked to watch college football and basketball games.

      She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, was very active in the church circle, she would help out anyway she could.

     Shirley is survived by her two sons, Bob (Kim) Baker, Brian (Kristi) Baker, daughter, Valerie (David) Hammond, five grandchildren, Allison, Brent, Micah, Ashley, Johnathan, one great grandchild, Blake, one great great grandchild, Aiden and sister-in-law, Mona Hurd.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dewey who passed August 30, 1997, three sisters, Delores Grimm, Marjorie Hurd, Georgann Jones, and brother, Kenneth Hurd.
