SB-L softball girls into SBA subscription fund-raising drive

Proceeds Will Benefit The SB-L Girls Softball Team

(SB) – Last year, the Sergeant Bluff-Luton girls’ softball team and the Sergeant Bluff Advocate (SBA) have teamed up for the annual SBA subscription drive. Last year, the girls earned $2,000 through their excellent efforts reaching out to current and new subscribers.
Head softball Coach Jared Ocher, carrying the mantle of mentor, said that he and the SBL girls have continued with the SBA-SBL subscription fundraiser because it certainly helps with expenses during the season.
In-county (Woodbury) subscriptions are $30 per year; outside Woodbury County, the cost of a subscription is $38. Each subscription sold is divided equally between the local newspaper and the girls’ softball team. In other words, for each individual subscription sold, the girls earn half the amount received.
“I’ve said from the very beginning, and say it again, that we are thrilled with our working relationship with SB-L’s students, coaches and school officials,” said Wayne Dominowski, SBA Editor. “It’s a win-win situation. The young people merit what they earn by reaching out to the Sergeant Bluff community through the subscription drive, while at the same time they directly assist us in updating our subscription rolls.”
The drive has already begun and will continue until the last week in May, thus allowing the softball girls precious time to not let the subscription drive interfere with their school activities, both academic and athletic, or their home schedules.
“Last year, the girls earned $2,000 which was presented in a check to the SBL CSD, which in turn entered the monies in the SBL softball account,” said Tim Loftus, SBA publisher. “My hope is that the girls exceed the amount earned by the wrestling team of over $3,000 in the first year the school and SBA began the subscription drive.”
