Sylvia Marie Houske Knowlton, 98, of Sergeant Bluff, IA, formerly of Monroe, NE, passed away December 7, 2024, at Pioneer Valley. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Sylvia was born on January 11, 1926, in Wichita, KS to John and Christine (Parker) Clupny. She graduated from high school in Nebraska and was united in marriage to Marlo Houske in November of 1944. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls for over 40 years. In her younger years, she worked as a model for JC Penny’s. Following her husband’s passing, she married Robert Knowlton in November of 1988. Together they lived in Monroe, NE for 33 years. Sylvia was an excellent seamstress and could sew anything. Her catholic faith was important to her, and she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Ron (Barbara) Houske; Robert’s children: Becky (Gene), Lori (Tim), and Jory (Jen). Her grandchildren: Grant (Ginger), Ross (Amanda), Krissie (Luke), Beth (Travis), Angela (Hubert), Craig (Chelsi), Josh, Jason, Alexis and Saddieanna. Sylvia also has eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Marlo and Robert; infant son, Roger; 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
