Do you have your library card?

(SBA) - September is winding down quickly, but there’s still time to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month! Sergeant Bluff Public Library cards are free to city residents and families of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community Schools. (Pssssst…reading this past September? You can still apply for a card. Stop by anytime!)

Library cards provide access to everything the Sergeant Bluff Public Library offers. Beyond books for every age and interest, the library features DVDs, audiobooks, e-books, games, puzzles, and even sewing kits that may be borrowed free of charge. Thanks to generous community donations, the library has a sewing machine and a telescope that may be checked out, as well.

Cards also give access to a full slate of events and activities hosted by the library—from regular children’s programming, fun crafting projects, historical presentations, conversations with local authors, and much more.

Most of all, the library provides great value to the community.

“Each time someone checks something out from the library, we provide a receipt that shares how much was saved by borrowing the item instead of buying,” shares Library Director Mary Torgerson. By Torgerson’s rough estimate, Sergeant Bluff Public Library saved local residents more than $206,779 over the last fiscal year.

To get your card, simply stop by Sergeant Bluff Public Library, located at 503 4th St., during regular business hours: Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Library cards may also be requested online and picked up at the library later.
