1. Call to Order
The regular January 2026 meeting of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Board of Education was called to order by President Jeff Wright at 6:00 a.m.
2. Approval of the Agenda

3. Welcome Visitors & Guests
President Wright welcomed the visitors and asked if anyone present wished to address the board.
No oral or written comments were given.
4. Approval of minutes from the previous meetings
The minutes of the meetings from December were reviewed by the board for approval.

7. Recognition
Congratulations to Halle Mosaquites and Abby Kueffer for getting their 100th win in wrestling.
Congratulations to the SBL Dazzler Dance Team for their outstanding performance at the State Dance Competition on December 5th. The team earned Division I ratings in all three dances, and brought home a 2nd place trophy in Novelty and a 3rd place trophy in Lights.
Recognize the Middle School Band and Choir for their concert performance on December 4th and the sing along with the elementary school on December 22nd.
Recognize the High School Band and Choir for their performance at the Winter Concert on December 11th.
Congratulations to Anna Pry for being selected to the Northwest Iowa Honor Band. The performance is January 10th.
Congratulations to the following students for being selected to the Northwest Iowa Honor Choir: Abby Anderson, Kayden Thompson, Ella Ter Wee, Jax Sedgwick, Noah Nicodemus, Roxy Dean, Ethan Hilts, Karsen Gibson. The performance is January 19th.
8. Administrative Reports
a. Dr. Brown
Dr. Brown discussed professional development and using strategies for the students. She is meeting with all the Middle School teachers to see how they are progressing on their individual professional development plans. She talked about the student of the month process. She explained the 2nd quarter celebration of taking each grade to the recreation center to celebrate the end of the 1st quarter and semester. The Middle School teachers are continuing to implement the new math curriculum. FAST testing is over the next two weeks to help determine what interventions will be needed. They are starting to prepare for the ISASP tests.

c. At-Risk Modifiable Allowable Growth for 2026-2027
The SBL school board may request Modified Supplemental Amount and Supplemental Aid for 2026-2027 from the School Budget Review Committee in the amount of $438,286.00. The board approved the At-Risk plan at the December 4, 2025 board meeting for expenditures necessary to implement the at-risk and dropout prevention program plans.

f. Consideration of sale of existing baseball and softball items from old baseball and softball fields.
The board discussed options for the old baseball/softball fields. The fields will be used as practice fields to keep maintenance to a minimum.

10. Superintendent Report
a. Year-End FY25 Financial Report
Mr. Janzen presented information on enrollment and how that affects our budget. Mr. Janzen provided current and projected financial information. The board will have a work session on
January 21 to review the information in detail.
b. 2025-2026 Board Goals Report
Mr. Janzen reviewed the 2025-2026 Board Goals Report.
c. National School Lunch Program budget update
Mr. Janzen provided an update on the National School Lunch Program.
