Robert R. "Bob" Briese, 89 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024. Services will be Friday, January 3, 2025, with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a time of sharing at 10:00 a.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff, 400 4th Street. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery-Midway in rural Anthon/Battle Creek, IA. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the American Legion post 079 and 389.
Bob was born on August 15, 1935 to Fred and Minnie (Lenz) Briese in Correctionville, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1953. Bob married Sally Botcher on August 8, 1958 in Anthon, IA. While courting Sally way back in the day, their first date was an Elvis Presley concert. He couldn’t help “Falling in Love” with Sally, finding his bride and becoming a lifelong Elvis fan.
Bob was drafted into the Army and served in the infantry in Germany. Upon returning Bob worked at the Container Corporation and later worked 30 years in the United States Post Office as a letter carrier. He then semi-retired and became a bus driver for South Sioux City Schools. Bob took pride in being a hard, consistent worker all his life.
In his spare time Bob enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and having the finest, greenest grass in the neighborhood. He was a lifelong sports participant and spectator. He was involved in baseball and played softball for many years, covering second base. Though he was predominantly right-handed, he always batted left-handed and he enjoyed the team camaraderie. He was always game to play cards with his family and was the official score keeper. Bob also enjoyed reading about finances and investments and used this to purchase rental properties. He wisely passed that useful knowledge onto his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sally Briese, his two children Brad Briese (Sarah), Brenda Forde (David), and his two grandchildren Jakob Forde and Ashley Briese. He was the youngest of six brothers, all who preceded him in death Marion, Arnold, Fred Jr., Clayton, and Dean.
Bob was a strong family man and will be dearly missed…
