(SBA) - This summer the Sergeant Bluff Public Library at 503 4th Street is offering free programming that will mesmerize all ages. From June 11th until Pioneer Valley Days in August, we have programs scheduled on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Here are the activities planned for the month of June.
The SBPL will have a raised garden this summer. Tuesday, June 11th at 10am, we will start the summer by planting some seeds to take home. We will learn how to take care of vegetables as they grow and then celebrate our hard work by sharing our harvest with a homegrown salad in August.

All Iowa Reads Authors will make a virtual visit to the library on Tuesday, June 11th and Wednesday, June 12th via Zoom in the Library meeting room.
     The schedule is as follows.
June 11, 6:30 pm-Diane Wilson- The Seed Keeper
     June 12, 2:00pm-Celia Perez – Tumble
June 12, 4:00pm- Samira Ahmed- Hollow Fires

On Thursday, June 13th, from 10am-11:30am, Dinosaur Dimensions will present their prehistoric program, “Meet the Dinosaurs.” An amazing collection of realistic puppets present an experience like no other. From cute baby Triceratops to a life size Raptor, or even a Pteranadon & T-Rex - you do not want to miss out on this! After their program, they will make time for pictures with the dinosaurs.
Middle School students interested in joining a Book Club can read the book Hollow Fires by Samira Ahmed. This is an amazing story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Books are available to borrow from the library. We will meet to discuss the book at Hawk’s, Friday, June 14th at 1pm.

Tuesday, June 18th, from 10am-11am the Iowa State Insect Zoo is bringing over 100 species of living arthropods. Knowledgeable Insect Zoo staff will talk about why our multi-legged friends are important for a healthy Earth, how you can help them in your own outdoor spaces, and how you can Spread the Bug Love! Many hands-on opportunities to handle millipedes, beetles, walking sticks and more! Bring in your photos of bugs to be identified or even the bug itself!

Thursday, June 20th from 6pm to 7:00pm the Sergeant Bluff Public Library is offering another program in our Life-Long Learning Series. Hazel Zink will be speaking about The Impact of Antarctic Extinctions on the Conservation Web. This series takes on a variety of topics that keep our brains active.

Elementary aged patrons can join me Friday, June 21st from 1pm to 3pm for a new Escape Room Board Game. The game has different themes, so no two games are alike. Put your wits to the test.

“The Importance of Bees” will be the theme on Tuesday, June 25th from 10am to 11am. The library will be hosting Tim Olsen from the NW Iowa Beekeepers Association. Bees are vital to our gardens and important to our world. Learn how we can help the bees survive.
The Sergeant Bluff Public Library is excited to provide the activities for our Summer Reading Program thanks to the generosity of the Community Action Team. We also have partnered with Sgt. Bluff Fareway, Sgt. Bluff Pizza Ranch, Culvers, Texas Roadhouse and the Blank Zoo in Des Moines. Come in this summer and check us out!
