(SBA) - On August 1, 2025, Paul Kuester of Sergeant Bluff was awarded a Quilt of Valor during a special ceremony at the Woodbury County Fair, alongside fourteen other veterans from Woodbury County. The quilt was sewn and personally presented to Paul by Jane Weaver, also of Sergeant Bluff. The Sergeant Bluff Legion Auxiliary Post 662 proudly sponsored the quilt.

This marks the fourth Quilt of Valor donated by Post 662 Auxiliary. Previous recipients include Bob Derflinger, Kermit Lee, and John Wax. Since its founding in 2003, the Quilt of Valor Foundation has awarded more than 400,000 quilts to veterans and service members across the United States.

Paul served in the U.S. Air Force from October 1963 to September 1967, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. He was stationed in Cholon, Vietnam, with the Air Postal Squadron, where he undertook numerous midnight mail runs under enemy fire. Paul has also been a dedicated member of the American Legion for 28 years.
