Tim Olson: The Hall of Notable Iowans and Other Midwest Curiosities
The Sioux City Art Center is thrilled to present a solo exhibition of work by Dubuque-based artist Tim Olson. This is his first exhibition at the Art Center. Olson, who was born in Storm Lake, and grew up in Marathon, is a multi-talented artist who works in painting, stained glass, drawing and printmaking. In his large- and small-scale paintings, Tim aims to capture the evolving relationship between industry and nature in this region, drawing inspiration from the intricate style of Netherlandish portrait and landscape painters. Tim’s paintings are presented in exquisitely detailed multi-panel altarpiece structures or hand-built gilded wooden frames. This unique fusion of influences will create an exhibition that resonates with audiences on both an emotional and intellectual level.

On July 20, 2 – 3:30 pm, the Art Center will be hosting a conversation between Tim Olson and Art Cullen, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, editor of The Storm Lake Times and author of the book, Storm Lake: A Chronicle of Change, Resilience, and Hope from a Heartland Newspaper.

Tim Olson: The Hall of Notable Iowans and Other Midwest Curiosities is organized by Sioux City Art Center Curator Chistopher Atkins. It is supported, in part, by grants from the Gilchrist Foundation, Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Humanities Iowa, and the Art Center Association of Sioux City.

The exhibition will remain on display through September 15, 2024.
